Poetry Week

Next week we will be celebrating Poetry Week. The theme this year is 'Light'! Therefore, we will be spending a lot of time reading lots of different poems and our Literacy will focus on innovating some poems that we are studying in class.

Your Literacy homework for this week is to find an amazing poem that you would like to share with the class. If you're struggling to find one, this website has loads of great poems; www.fizzyfunnyfuzzy.com.

  1. I'm excellent, fabulous, great as can be!
    Astoundingly splendid. Yes, seriously!
I'm wickedly wondrous to such a degree,
That I'm out of this world. I can see you agree!
    Breathtakingly super, a sure guarantee,
There's no one as peachy or first class as me!
    Phenomenal homework comes most easily,
So why is last week's marked in red with an 'E'?

  3. I emptied my bubble bath into the tub,
Determined to get myself thoroughly scrubbed.
The bottle had said ONLY ONE CAP OR TWO,
So I poured in the lot to see what it would do.

  4. Macavity: the mystery cat
    By T.S. ELIOT.
I liked the poem because the cat is a different type of cat and it had repetition so the reader could join in and the author the cat is scary and petrifying. There are words that made it rhyme.
    Rainbow Light by Sienna

The rainbow beamed through my window the light burning my eyes
I thought the sun was just in disguise
Oh light oh light everyone loves light
Butterfly reach out use all your might
Epic colours made my room a rainbow
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple made it go cool
Light reaches out to grab us to keep us safe
Rainbow in light on the sky
    Best of light!

  5. Fire Works!
    BANG! There goes another one,
    Screaming as it goes.
    It's getting high,
    Up in the sky,
And fizzle - there she blows!

WHOOSH! Up high above the house,
    Behind a trail of sparks.
    Yellow, orange,
    Red and white,
    Exploding in the dark!

Matilda (who told lies and was burned to death)
Matilda told such dreadful lies,ilItmade one gasp and stretch one's eye; Her Aunt, who from her Earliest Youth, Attempted to belvedere Matilda:
The effort nearly killed her, And would have done so,had not she discovered this Infirmity. For once, towards the close of day,Matilda, growing tired of play,And finding she was left alone,Went tiptoe to the telephone And summoned the Immediate Aid of London's Noble Fire-Brigade. Within an hour the Gallant Band Were pouring in on every hand, From Pitney, Hackney Downs , and Bow ,With Courge high and Hearts a - glow They galloped , roaring through the town,"Matilda's house is burning down!" Inspired by British Cheers and Loud Proceeding from the Frenzied Crowd, They ran their ladders through a score Of windows on the Ball Room Floor; And took Peculiar Pains to Souse The pictures up and down,
Until Matilda's Aunt succeeded that they were not needed, And even then she had to pay to get the men to go away!

It happened that a few weeks later Her Aunt was off to the Theatre to see that Itresting play. The second Mrs Tsnqueray. She had refused to take her niece to hear this entertaining piece : A deprivation just and wise to punch her for telling lies .
That night a fire did break out you should have heard Matilda shout! You should have heard her scream and brawl, and throw the window up and call to people passing the street (The rapidly increasing her confidence ) but all in vain!
    For every she shouted Fire!
The only answer was Little Liar!
And therefore when her Aunt returned,Matilda, and the house were burned

  12. (Cat's by hayan) cats sleep Anywhere,
    Any table, any chair,
    Top of piano, window -ledge,
    In the middle,
    On the edge;,
    Open drawer,
    Empty shoe,
    Anybody's lap will do,
    Fitted in a cardboard box,
    In the cupboard
    With your frocks-
    Anywhere!
    They don't care!

  13. If Pigs Could Fly

If pigs could fly, I'd fly a pig
To foreign countries small and big
    To Italy and Spain,
    To Austria, where cowbells ring,
    To Germany, where people sing
    And then come home again.

    I'd see the Ganges and the Nile;
    I'd visit Madagascar's isle,
    And Persia and Peru.
People would say they'd never seen
So odd, so strange an air machine
As that on which I flew.

Why everyone would raise a shout
To see his trotters and his snout
    Come floating from the sky;
And I would be a famous star
Well known in countries near and far
    If only pigs could fly!

  14. If I had a pair of wings, with which to fly,
I’d soar straight away, up into the sky.
    I’d carry a brush,
    and paints in colours bright,
    So I could paint
    every fluffy cloud in sight!
    I’d paint them purple
    and yellow and green-
    They’d be the prettiest

  20. Lego

Lego is the best because you can make lots and lots of fun things like boats, planes, helicopters, houses and plenty of other things.

With Lego you can build things big,
    build things small,
    build things long,
    build things tall.

And build things any size at all.

    Painting's really difficult,
    With pencils I'm nonplussed.
    Charcoal just gets everywhere,
    And crayons are a bust.

    Pastels are too tricky,
And pens, they lead to splodge.
    Gluing's just too sticky,
    Papier-mâché I just bodge.

    Art is really taxing,
    This creating tires me out.
And I'm really far too messy,
Of that I have no doubt.

So there's paint upon the ceiling,
    And pencil on the chair.
    There's pastel dust just everywhere,
    Mum's shrieking with despair.

Our dog's stuck to his basket,
    Crayon scrawled across the door.
I think it will be quite a while,
    'till I create once more!
